[VIDEO] Happy Birthday Dr. Martin Luther King
Good morning everyone. On this day back in 1939, a baby was born on Auburn Avenue that would grow into a man who would change the world. His name was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Our nation will celebrate his birthday tomorrow with a holiday in his honor. This morning, I have chosen to acknowledge his contributions and the enormous amount of faith he had in God (and us) as a strong black race.
He had faith in himself to believe that he could lead the change to end segregation in our nation, faith in us as black people to endure the challenges that we faced, and faith in God to give him (and us) to strength to endure the verbal attacks, dog attacks, water hoses, and other abuses we suffered under the Jim Crow Laws of the south.
I grew up in a small town in Tennessee and witnessed segregation first hand. But Dr. King, through his non-violent marches, changed the minds of those in power. He even led to the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that changed the course of life for us as black people.
When it comes to faith, he was the perfect example. Even though he was arrested many times, he kept going. Even though he was stabbed by a deranged woman in Chicago, he kept going. Even though his house was bombed, he kept going. He was focused on the cause of liberating us from the stronghold of segregation.
Tomorrow, we will celebrate as a Nation. But this morning, I wanted to say happy birthday Dr. Martin Luther King – and acknowledge his contributions as the leader of the Civil Rights Movement, his dedication to us as black people, and his faith in God to make a difference in our nation and the world.
Happy birthday Dr. King, from all of us here at the people station, V-103 and News and Talk 1380 WAOK.

[VIDEO] Sunday Morning Praise Remembers Daryl Coley
This morning, we are remembering the late Daryl Coley who passed away this past Tuesday. There was no doubt that Daryl was one of the finest singers to ever sing gospel music. He started his career by working with Helen Stephens and the Voices of Christ, followed by Edwin Hawkins and the Edwin Hawkins Singers. He also had the opportunity to work with Rev. James Cleveland. Even though he recorded many hit albums and singles as a solo performer, many of his biggest hits came from singing with other choirs. One in particular was with the Wilmington Chester Mass Choir. He sang lead on the song called, “He’s Preparing Me,” and it won a Stellar Award as the song of the year.
Daryl Coley was a very gifted gospel singer who also collaborated with R&B artist like Nancy Wilson and Phillip Bailey of Earth Wind and Fire. During his career, he had great record label homes like Sparrow Records, LGHT and Verity Records. On one occasion, he recorded a song with Donald Lawrence and the Tri-City Singers called “When Sunday Comes.” Upon it’s release, the song became an instant hit.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Daryl on many occasions, and saw what he went though with his medical problems. During one interview, he told me about being diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes, which affected his kidneys and even caused temporary blindness. He was always cordial and professional. It was a pleasure listen to him sing, and speak with him personally. He was, and will always remain a giant in the gospel music industry. Daryl may be gone but he left us with many hits. As we celebrate his life today, here is another video of one of his popular songs with the Wilmington-Chester Mass Choir called “Sovereign.”

[VIDEO] Larry Tinsley Shares His Prince Moment
It was back in the mid-80’s. Prince came to Atlanta for a meet and greet with the announcers and media professionals. It was held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel on Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta.
I was running late, and the hallway had been cleared for his arrival by his very big bearded bodyguard. After arriving on the designated floor, my elevator opened, and inside was Prince. He was all by himself. Here I was standing at 6’5 and he was 5’2. I was amazed at how short he was.
As he got off the elevator, there he was, looking up at me. We spoke to each other, and I told him I was there for his reception. He pointed me in the right direction and we proceeded down the hall together. I couldn’t believe it. There I was, walking down the hall with Prince. As I arrived at the meet and greet door, I told him I will see him inside.
The officials in the meet and greet laid the ground rules. Prince will not take pictures. We could speak to him and shake his hand, but no conversations. He had to keep it moving. Everyone was in order. We all shook his hand and said hello. Then moments later, he was gone. I was a true pleasure to have a chance to meet the musical icon. So this morning on Sunday Morning Praise, I dedicate Jennifer Hundson’s “Jesus Promised Me A Home Over There” to his memory. His music and artistry will be missed.
